The tech giant Google has once again left us in awe by introducing what I’d l call “The best ever audio recording and transcription app”. Google recorder app is so good that once you start to play with it, you’d literally abandon all other voice memo apps that you have been using.
Google introduced the new recorder app at Google’s October hardware event and arguably it was one of the tech giant’s best demos. It was a spectacular show of imagination meets innovation.
The app is powered by AI but you might be thinking that there are already many apps available on play store that are backed by these cutting edge technologies. What makes this app truly unique is the resourcefulness and the rich experience that it offers.
Google’s Recorder app is now on my Pixel 3. Just trying it out with some CBeebies, and apart from substituting “crap” for “crab” it’s kind of impressive pic.twitter.com/9E4g0Q4ExS— Jon Hall (@JonHall_) December 9, 2019
Google Recorder App salient features:
- Real Time Transcriptions
Like I said already, the app store is full of voice recorder apps but how many of them offer real-time transcriptions? Not many – believe me. Even the ones who do offer, they are not really that good because the text they produce is often inaccurate. Google recorder’s transcriptions are not only clear and accurate but it also captures and transcribes audios simultaneously and that, in real-time. Meaning, you can also view the transcription as its being created.
- Search in Your Audio Notes
We are all used to text search where we go into a device’s search bar, enter some text and the system brings us all the files and folders where that text has been used. Google recorder lets you do the same thing with audio, meaning you can now search in your audio for specific things.
You can use a specific word or phrase that you remember was used in recording and just enter that word in the audio search and google will bring you all those audios that include that word. Not only that, but it will also take you to right to that bit of the audio where the word is used. And it doesn’t even stop there – it will also highlight the spots in the audio timeline where the words appear later in the clip so you can directly skim to your intended section. It’s crazy and its mesmerizing!!
- Save with the appropriate tags
Google makes the experience resourceful by not only allowing you to title the recording but also enables you to tag it with the location. It is inspired by Gmail where you get title suggestions but you can always opt to ignore that and give it any title that you like.
- It works Both online and Offline
Now here is the best part. You can use this application without requiring internet access. It offers real-time transcriptions even when you are not connected to the internet. This makes it perfect for students and journalists who often require real-time transcriptions but may not have access to the internet all the time.
Google recorder is only available for Pixel 4:
By now you’d probably hopped in your app store aiming to download the app but unfortunately, it is only available for google pixel series which is I would say not very nice of Google. Tech publications are calling it a shame if Google doesn’t extend this service to android play store which is actually powered by Google itself. Let’s hope that Google is generous enough to not limit this app to pixel users only.
