Imam Hussain (RA) Early Life: An Inspiration for Present Youngsters!

Being born in the household of Allah’s Messenger and exemplary parents, Imam Hassan and Imam Hussain along with their sister Bibi Zainab were under the shadow of great Teachers/Leaders. Both Imams were taught from the beginning of the Islamic Principles in a unique way not taught by anyone. We have a lot of authentic Hadith on them, such as:

Anas ibn Malik Narrated:

When Allah’s Messenger (S) was asked which member of his family was dearest to him, he replied, “Al-Hasan and al-Husayn.” He used to say to Fatimah, “Call my two sons to me,and then would sniff and cuddle them.

– Sahih Tirmidhi, per:
– Mishkat al-Masabih, by Khatib al-Tabrizi, English Version, Tradition #6158

Though Imam Hussain had spent only seven years under the guidance of Prophet but it was cleared through his actions that he surely belonged to Prophet Muhammad (Saww) since what he does was in the manner Quran asks us to be like.

It is narrated that:

The Messenger of Allah said: “Husayn is from me and I am from Husayn.”

Imam Hussain (RA) Political Endeavors: Kept Mind and Manners Parallel!

Under the leadership of his father Hazrat Ali (RA), Imam Hussain (RA) learned the methods and techniques of dealing with political issues. During the Caliphate of Hazrat Usman (RA), Imam Hussain along with his brothers Imam Hassan and Hazrat Abbas shielded the house of Prophet’s Companion when protestors demanded justice against the burning of Quran copies. Moreover, Hazrat Ali (RA) provided the Caliph with water when the Muslims stopped the water supply to the Caliph.

He took part in three battles during the Caliphate of his father Hazrat Ali (RA). He assisted his father in every matter, be it diplomatic or required physical bravery on the battlefield, he has been there no matter what! In the Battle of Jamal, Imam Hussain (RA) was the commanding officer. His first victory was during the Battle of Siffin when he under the leadership of Imam Ali freed the River Euphrates.

Abu Huraira narrated:

The Prophet (S) looked toward ‘Ali, Hasan, Husayn, and Fatimah (sa), and then said: “I am in war with those who will fight you, and in peace with those who are peaceful to you.”

Imam Hussain (RA) As the Leader: On the Right Path till the End!

After the death of Hazrat Ali and Imam Hassan, the responsibility of leadership fell upon the shoulders of Imam Hussain (RA) who did not hesitate to take it without question because he knew upon which the pillars of Islam stood and which is why in order to save the religion of grandfather Hazrat Muhammad (Saww), he did not step back and laid down his and his family lives in Karbala in the Month of Muharram, just to set example of bravery, siding with truth in darkest times and how to win a battle even after losing everything!

Imam Husayn (as) said: “Don’t you see that the truth is not followed and the falsehood is not discouraged? (The situation is so severe) so that a Believer wishes to meet Allah (i.e., to die). And today I don’t see death but prosperity, and living with tyrants is nothing but disgust and disgrace.”

Imam Husayn said: “People are the slaves of this world, and religion is just in their tong. They keep it as long as it meets their comfortable life. But when the test comes, religion holders become very few.”

There is so much to learn from Islamic personalities and they are enough for us but still, we crave for the attention of non-believers who in truth have been inspired by our role models. There is much need to hold to our values and set aside mere differences over the overall benefit for the community.
