What do you understand by the terminology ‘Bidah’? There may be different interpretations of the word but the literal meaning remains the same. The word roots from the word Al Badah which means creating something new which does not exist in first place. Another meaning states that innovation is specifically related to customs, actions and values etc. Our dating meme has vast features and numerous purposes to serve the wishes and needs of our users, one being staying neutral and presenting the case with logics and history, today we will discuss about the sayings from influential Muslim figures of Holy Prophet’s (Saww) including himself and Quranic verses to aware our users about Bidah and how one can avoid it in Present Age!

The Types of Bidah vary according to misconceptions, falsifications but there are two most common interpretations relating to the concept. Since it is known as Innovation in English; The first type is innovation in the matter of things about our worldly life. Things like technology, electricity and transport come under this category, these things are permissible and, in many cases, could even be called desirable. The second type of innovation pertains to matters of the Deen. In matters of religion, Bidah is not permissible and it can be dangerous to introduce new things in our religion.

Before we could begin with the sayings, let’s start with the most authentic source of all the authentic sources we have in the world. Allah clearly says in the Quran about the religion He has chosen for us:

“…this day I have perfected for you your religion and completed My favor upon you and have approved for you Islam as your religion…” (Quran 5:3).

At another place, He says to His creation which not just confirmed that Bidah in Quran has been discussed but removes various doubts:

“…There has come to you from Allah a light and a clear Book. By which Allah guides those who pursue His pleasure to the ways of peace and brings them out from darknesses into the light, by His permission, and guides them to a straight path” (Quran 5:15-16)

Which means that He has provided us with guidance and light regarding every aspect of life so that there is no corner left for suspicion and confusion, to clarify questions of religion.

Not just Allah but Allah’s Messenger has repeatedly conveyed the clear-cut message through his Bidah Hadith, narrated by Aisha (RA):

“Whoever innovates something into this matter of ours which does not belong to it will have it rejected” (Bukhari 2550)

Now the question arises how to avoid it? Well, the Quran and Sunnat of Holy Prophet(saw) is the only valid answer. Whatever the Prophet did, said and believed was directed by the will of Allah and He trusted His messenger with His word. Hence the Sunnah and hadith best serve the matters of religion. However, if the Quran and hadith prove insufficient in certain matters, then look up to the Household and Companions of the Prophet (Saww) for better guidance and they should be the first choice. It is important to be aware of all aspects of religion from authentic sources and then make an informed decision.
